APS EXCEEDS STATE CSAP GROWTH MEDIAN AGAIN

Aurora Public Schools exceeded the overall state median CSAP growth percentile (50th percentile) in all three areas assessed for the third year in a row. Each student who has taken the CSAP for two consecutive years is also given a student growth percentile score by the Colorado Department of Education. The score compares each student’s performance to students in the same grade throughout Colorado, who had similar CSAP scores in past years. There are 21 tests that measure growth.

APS highlights:

  • APS met or exceeded the state median growth percentile in 11 of 21 grade and subject areas.
  • An increase in the median growth percentile was noted in 14 of 21 grade and subject areas over the last three years.
  • Like CSAP proficiency, the highest APS growth percentiles were in math, although the majority of scores by test/subject in reading and writing have increased over the last three years.
  • There were 27 schools that had growth median percentile scores at or above the state median in all three subject areas (22 schools in 2009).

APS has exceeded the state level growth of proficient scores over the last four years in all areas. APS scores for 2009-10 remained stable with a 0.2% gain overall. The state overall losses came in at -0.4%.

This year, 17 APS schools had an overall increase in proficient scores near or at 3%. The percentage is an APS goal set by the district and is acknowledged by the CDE as an “extremely compelling goal” and one that is difficult to attain.

Other CSAP highlights:

  • APS has increased proficiency scores 3.7% over the past four years.
    • The state gain is 1.0% over the past four years.
  • Reading scores show an increase at the middle school level for a second year.
  • Over the past four years, the district has seen an increase of 3.3% in writing of proficient and advanced scores.
  • Proficient scores in math have increased 6.3% over the past five years.
  • Free and reduced lunch enrollment increased 3% over last year and is now 71% at the CSAP grade levels.
