Aurora Public Schools

At the APS Professional Learning & Conference Center, students from across APS recently competed in the annual Game 24 Tournament. Forty students in grade 6-8 from ten middle schools and K-8 schools participated in this year's tournament.

And for the second year, 71 students from 18 APS elementary schools participated in their own Game 24 Tournament!

In groups of four, students picked cards that included four numbers and calculated equations that equaled 24 using only addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. One group of students received the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 on their card. They then shouted out equations with those numbers that equaled 24: "4 x 3 = 12, 12 x 2 = 24, 24 / 1 = 24!"

In the middle school tournament, Murphy Creek's Spencer Jackson, Aurora Quest's Andrew Miles, and Columbia's students Hubert Price and Faven Woldetatyos took top honors after the challenge round. The four students received certificates and medals as middle school tournament winners.

In the elementary school tournament, Moses Jones and Bettania Delcupp of Murphy Creek, Sebastian Para of Clyde Miller and Timothy Fox of Laredo took top honors.
