Aurora Central Grad to be Catalog Model
Aurora Central High School graduate and Life Skills program participant Christian Ordonez used his technological savvy to his advantage these past few years. Ordonez, who has Down syndrome, uses a Saltillo device, the Chat PC Silk, to assist with his oral communication, and he has been chosen to be a model for their next catalog.
Ordonez attended Central for four years and is known by many of the students and staff to be a friendly and often funny young man. He has many things to say and, in the past, was often frustrated by the inability of others to understand him.
Last year, Ordonez began using a computerized device called a Chat PC to help him communicate clearly with others. In the past year, he learned to use it to tell others about his experiences in helping a family friend fixing appliances as well as to talk about his learning in the classroom.
Ordonez has become a national model for the Chat PC and Saltillo, the manufacturer of the Chat PC, has chosen a photo of him using his device to be published in the upcoming catalog.
As a member of the Class of 2012, Christian will attend the transition program at Crossroads in the fall.
Congratulations on your success!
