Amy Spatz Honored as Planner of the Year
Amy Spatz, Aurora Public Schools Manager of Design and Construction, has earned the Bob Vesper Planner of the Year Award from the Council of Educational Facility Planners International, Southwest Region. Earlier this year, Spatz received a similar honor from the CEFPI Rocky Mountain Chapter. The award is the highest and most distinguished honor given by the region, which includes Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
In May, Spatz and Jim Bittle, APS Director of Construction Management and Support, were invited to present at CEFPI’s Southwest Regional Conference. Their presentation, “Renewing Older School Buildings,” highlighted how all of a district’s school buildings can be improved over time by promoting better school design, maintaining tight budgets, and involving educators, staff and community members in setting priorities.
The APS bond program, approved by Aurora voters in 2008, has funded new construction, major building remodels, and building and technology improvements at every school in the district.
