As the saying goes, "Out with the old, in with the new."
This phrase describes the exultant feeling around Elkhart Elementary School, where the APS community gathered recently to celebrate the school's new look.
The remodel expanded the school’s capacity from 463 to 708 students. The design includes an addition that houses a new gymnasium, kitchen, cafeteria, media center, computer lab and secure entry/front office. The project also included nine additional classrooms, a new student drop-off loop, a visitor parking area, partial roof replacement and replacement of the water piping system and restroom plumbing fixtures.
Thanks to bond dollars approved by Aurora voters in 2008, Elkhart was one of three APS schools to receive building additions and improvements over the summer.
