Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education Deb Delisle and David Esquith, Director of the Office of Safe and Healthy Students, recently visited Gateway High School as part of the U.S. Department of Education’s third annual back-to-school bus tour. Delisle and Esquith met with APS leaders and Gateway staff members to discuss the APS response to the July 20 tragedy and overall district and school practices of ensuring safe and positive learning environments.
Prior to the discussion, the Gateway High School Athenian choir provided a touching tribute to the 7/20 victims.
USDE teaching ambassador fellow Mike Humphreys also hosted a conversation with APS teachers and staff at Aurora Central High School. The 90-minute roundtable discussion focused on health and physical education.
