Kenton Elementary Principal Heather Woodward joined nearly every teacher at Kenton for a community walk, visiting families and handing out fliers with important dates. The walk happened on the Friday morning before the beginning of the school year.
Teachers divided up into six groups and walked around surrounding neighborhoods. Many met with new students and their families. They also asked returning students about how they spent their summer vacations and passed out colorful pencils.
"There's no expectation — it's just a way to make a good connection," Woodward said.
Kenton students said they were excited to see staff members out in their neighborhoods. Several told their teachers they were excited and "couldn't wait to start school again!"
Kenton staff took "selfies" with students and even made it a friendly competition to see who could take the best "selfie".
Aurora Public Schools is proud to have such caring and enthusiastic educators!
