New Playground Debuts at Park Lane Elementary

Park Lane Playground Grand Opening

The students and community of Park Lane Elementary School are riding high these days following the completion of upgrades to the school’s outdoor playground. Thanks to more than $200,000 in grants from Great Outdoors Colorado, APS’ Division of Support Services, Lowe’s and Park Lane’s PTO, crews were able to redesign and improve the play space at the school.

Students, staff and community members recently celebrated the milestone with a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony. Representatives from Colorado Lottery – GOCO is funded by the lottery – were also on hand to present principal Mary Duran and the school with the Starburst award, which recognizes project and program excellence in the use of lottery funds.

The goal of this project was to promote physical activity for children of all ages and ability by increasing access to safe and engaging play structures. Park Lane’s nature-themed playground is accessible to all children and includes an infinity climber, a wiggle ladder and a flywheel. Officials also used funds to purchase safer surfacing, ADA-accessible wheelchair ramps, and materials to install a Colorado-themed walking path that can be utilized in physical education and social studies classes.
