Fresh off of Halloween, most kids are reluctant to give up the candy and snacks they collected while trick-or-treating. The sweets are usually too mouthwatering to part with, unless of course there’s a reason that just can’t be ignored.
Such was the case recently for students at Lyn Knoll Elementary School, who organized candy donations for servicemen and servicewomen of the military. After learning that military personnel serving overseas often lack many of the luxuries civilians take for granted – like candy – students decided to take charge, which they’re learning about thanks to Lyn Knoll’s designation as a Leader in Me School. Instructors have integrated the “Leader in Me’s” 7 Habits of Happy Kids in their curriculum, one of which encourages students to be proactive.
Students who donated candy received a coupon for a discount for Lyn Knoll’s fall dance, which is scheduled for Veterans Day this Friday.
