Students Collaborate with Police to Produce Valuable Resource

Aurora Public Schools students are shaping successful—and safe—futures in collaboration with the Aurora Police Department. A forward-thinking group of APS and Cherry Creek School District high school students worked with officers to develop a guide that they hope will break down any barriers between police and young citizens.

Suitably titled Empowering, the booklet explains laws and law enforcement procedures in layman’s terms. It covers a wide range of topics, including how to interact with officers, the dangers of firearms, how to report a crime and more. The guide even addresses social media safety, suicide prevention and dating violence.

The group effort between officers and students illustrates our APS 2020: Shaping the Future core belief that community partnerships provide vital resources and opportunities for students and families. Empowering, although created with youth in mind, is beneficial to the community as a whole.

Parents, teachers, community members and more are encouraged to check the guide out below and spread the word!
