Last Tuesday, the Board held its monthly Business Meeting. The meeting was kicked off by an opportunity to recognize several important members of our community and their efforts to further APS, including: teachers and students; and, the members of the Aurora Citizens for Excellent Schools (ACES). The Board and I were honored to recognize these great examples of people living out our Core Beliefs.
The Board covered four major topics during the balance of the evening:
First, the Board discussed its principles for the upcoming negotiation process with AEA. The Board reviewed prior year’s negotiations and discussed how it would direct the negotiating team to approach the issues for this year.
Second, the Board reviewed the recommendation for new math curriculum as proposed by the Equity in Learning Team. The Board heard from teachers and Instructional coaches about the different options and how the class instruction was impacted by pilots of the new curriculum.
Both of the above items will be up for final consideration at the Board’s Workshop meeting on the 21st.
A third topic for the Board was to hear a bond election recap from ACES. ACES explained the steps and strategies that led to a successful bond outcome.
Finally, the Board heard a presentation regarding school staffing allocation. The HR and Finance teams walked the Board through the processes and formulas that are used to derive our school staffing allocation. The Board also heard from several principals how ratio changes might impact their decision making and their staffing plans.
As always, you can find the Board presentations and minutes on our website.
