APS Students Take the Cake at Local Debate Tournament

Uncovering talent in students is not as easy as it may sound. Teachers, advisors, counselors and coaches are always looking for new ways to help students rise to the top, which aligns with the APS 2020 core belief that every student has unique abilities that we must recognize and engage. Based on results from a recent speech and debate tournament, a host of APS students just might have found their sweet spot.

At the tail end of 2016, students from Aurora Central. Hinkley, Gateway and Rangeview High Schools and Vista PEAK Preparatory took part in the Denver Urban Debate League's "December Double Header" at the University of Denver's Sturm College of Law. Having participated in the DUDL for the past several years, APS students are no rookies when it comes to speech and debate. This time around, students did more than just participate; many took home top honors. Additionally, APS students swept several of the categories during the weekend tournament.
