As the school year begins to wind down to an end and thoughts of leaving high school swirl through seniors’ minds, the students may experience feelings that are bitter sweet. But there’s one thing senior year can bring that’s just sweet—a scholarship. And there’s one thing that can put the cherry on top—a full ride.
One APS student is enjoying the best of both worlds, two-fold. Meet Hinkey High School senior Abena Antobre (pictured right). After persevering through highly-competitive, rigorous application and interview processes, she earned both the Boettcher and Daniels Fund scholarships! The prestigious programs award full-ride scholarships and support to students who exhibit academic excellence, humanitarianism and leadership.
“It was pretty cool because I got both letters on the same day!” said Antbore. “I cried a little bit and I don’t usually cry, but it’s something I’ve been working toward since I was a freshman.”
Antobre will soon begin working toward her next goal, which is to become a hematologist that specializes in sickle cell anemia. Down the road, she aspires to improve the healthcare system in her homeland of Ghana.
“I don’t know who I’m going to help exactly, but if I work really hard, I can impact a lot of peoples' lives.”
If Antobre accepts the title of a Daniels Scholar, she will be amongst 10 other APS students! APS is home to nearly a dozen 2017 Daniels Scholars, five from Rangeview alone. We are extremely proud of each scholar listed below and wish them continued success.
