As outlined in the APS 2020: Shaping the Future strategic plan, Aurora Public Schools believes that community partnerships provide vital resources and opportunities our students and families need to excel. Under this philosophy, APS recently hosted a Connecting Aurora event.
The affair, sponsored by Project AWARE, the Aurora Mental Health Center and Children’s Hospital Colorado, provided an opportunity for local organizations and agencies to convene, swap resources and close any gaps that may exist in their ability to operate as a seamless, collective support system for the community.
Before heading out to put their new-found knowledge into play, attendees viewed and discussed a screening of Paper Tigers. The film shines light on traumatized youth and examines how parents and family members may reduce the negative impact of adverse childhood experiences.
The room was filled with lots of love, comradery and passion to help others, all of which made the day a memorable one. Bravo to APS AWARE Coach Bridget Jackson and the entire APS AWARE team on a successful event!
