APS Fifth Graders Run the Town—Young AmeriTowne, That Is!

APS_0924 - CopyMore than 1,000 APS fifth-grade students are currently participating as citizens in Young AmeriTowne! The simulated city, constructed by Young Americans Bank, provides students hands-on opportunities to learn business and economics.

Throughout April, APS is hosting this award-winning educational event. Students from across the district arrive in bus loads dressed for their roles, ready to run the town for a day. Each day, the town bustles with new policemen, physicians, accountants and more who had to interview for their jobs. Prominent positions, like the mayor and judge, are elected and sworn in.

Students spent months preparing to run the town’s stores, medical center, radio station and more. The valuable life skills they gain from this experience will help prepare them for the real world.
