APS Bond Projects Increase School Safety

Keeping students and staff safe is essential to the APS vision and mission. Thanks to voter support of the 2016 bond, APS is improving safety and security at every school in the district.

Since 2008, APS has made several bond- funded safety improvements, including the construction of security vestibules at new and remodeled preschool, elementary, P-8 and middle school buildings. The vestibules ensure that visitors enter through electrically-latched doors and must check in with school staff before being admitted into a school.

The 2016 bond will fund the addition of security vestibules at 29 schools that do not currently have this safety feature. Vestibule projects will begin in 2018, with most of the projects completed by summer 2019.

The bond program also includes safety and security system upgrades to school fire alarms, PA systems, security cameras and classroom door hardware. To learn more about bond projects, visit bond.aurorak12.org.
