Aurora Central is Home to an “Educator Champion”

The 2016-17 school year was one for the books for Aurora Central High School Psychologist Karyn Singley-Blair. After the Colorado Society of School Psychologists named her the “2016-17 Colorado School Psychologist of the Year,” she racked up another prestigious accolade.

Challenge Denver honored Singley-Blair with the “Challenge Denver Educator Champion” award! This recognizes her tireless commitment to Challenge Denver programs and social emotional skill building.

Singley-Blair established an anti-bullying, self-confidence-building Challenge Day at Aurora Central to engage students in thought-provoking activities that help them break down walls and develop deeper levels of respect for one another. The event supports Challenge Denver’s aim to provide students with innovative social emotional programs that create healthy school environments where hate and intolerance are replaced with love, acceptance and healthy relationships.

Challenge Denver publicly honored Singley-Blair at their Be the Change dinner where Board Chair Micah Gurard-Levin delivered a heartfelt speech noting, “When the Challenge Denver board gathered to nominate this year’s Educator Champion, the decision couldn’t have been more clear.”

Gurard-Levin went on to thank Singley-Blair "for being a torch bearer, for leading with confidence, with conviction, with passion, and with your love for every student, in your school community and beyond.”

Singley-Blair stands as a shining example of Aurora Public Schools' belief that student achievement and growth are driven by a highly-effective and respected staff working as a team.  Go, Trojans!
