Last year I started a practice of sending out regular summaries of the most recent meeting of our Board of Education. Many of you have indicated that this was a helpful practice, so, I will be doing the same this year.
The Board met for its annual planning retreat on August 8. For the last few years the Board has adopted the practice of taking this first meeting of the year to plan out dates for any special meetings and to direct staff regarding what workshop topics to cover during the year. This year, the Board also took up a discussion regarding how to orient new Board members after the November election.
During the first semester, the Board workshops will include: Reviewing assessment data, Evaluating the first year of the ACTION Zone, Reviewing the progress of APS 2020; and, Launching the discussion of the District’s environmental plan. The last item was a point I mentioned to you during the Back to School meetings.
As always, if you want more detail about any of these items you may review the Board minutes and related presentations on our website. The Board will have its first Workshop meeting next week, August 22.
