Gateway, Aurora Hills Help Hurricane Victims

Gateway H.S. Assistant Principal Mehran Ahmed

Residents of Houston, TX are enduring a painful rebuilding process after catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Harvey. Watching the disaster Harvey created has been very difficult for Gateway High School Assistant Principal Mehran Ahmed. Ahmed grew up in Houston and previously worked as a teacher at Houston’s Tanglewood Middle School. He also still has family in the area who were significantly impacted by the hurricane. Rather than just watch though, Ahmed decided to take action and is working to help Houston students get back to school.

Ahmed reached out to Tanglewood Middle School and nearby Heights High School to see what they needed most. Many students and their families lost their homes along with all their school supplies. Ahmed is working to gather school supply donations and Gateway students are rallying behind him to get the word out to the community. Gateway has also partnered with Aurora Hills Middle School in the collection effort. Ahmed plans to make a personal delivery with the supplies to the two Houston schools by mid-September.

Anyone who would like to contribute can drop off donations at the main offices of Gateway High School (1300 S Sable Blvd, Aurora, CO) or Aurora Hills Middle School (1009 S Uvalda St, Aurora, CO) until Thursday, September 14th at 4:00 p.m.
