Volunteers Create Outdoor Classroom

Volunteer paints fenceThanks to local volunteers, students at North Middle School Health Sciences and Technology Campus can now enjoy class outside in the school’s remodeled courtyard.

North received a $15,000 grant for the courtyard transformation during Xcel Energy’s seventh annual Day of Service. During the event, 40 local volunteers updated the outdoor space by adding stone pavers, mulch and landscaping. North also received an additional $500 grant to maintain the space.

One of the core beliefs included in the APS 2020 strategic plan is: Community partnerships provide vital resources and opportunities for students and their families.“I’m so impressed with how often we are able to partner with our local community to improve our schools,” North Assistant Principal Jennifer Minor said.

Contributions from Xcel Energy and community volunteers will benefit North’s students for years to come.
