Supt. Message: Happy New Year 2018 and Welcome Back

APS:

Happy New Year and welcome back from winter break! I hope you enjoyed quality time with your families and friends. We are excited to dive into second semester with the MOMENTUM we have built upon across the district.

School Board Recognition Month

January is School Board Recognition Month. We are grateful for the contribution each APS Board of Education member makes to help every student shape a successful future and the vital role they play in our schools and communities. Our Board members volunteer their time to advocating for public education; participating in school functions; reviewing reports, proposals, agendas; approving the district budget and much more. Please take a moment to express your gratitude to these men and women for their leadership, dedication and desire to serve our APS community.

APS Schools Earn Top State Awards

I am proud to announce that East Middle School, Fulton Academy of Excellence, Elkhart, Laredo and Vassar elementary schools earned the Colorado Department of Education’s 2017 Centers of Excellence Award. In addition, Dartmouth Elementary School earned the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award and Aurora Quest K-8 earned CDE’s John Irwin Schools of Excellence Award. Year over year, APS is making significant gains thanks to your hard work and dedication to our students and families.

Spring 2018 State Assessments

I would like to remind you that many of our students will participate in state testing this spring, starting as early as next week. These results help us understand whether students have mastered the content they need to know by the end of the school year to be on track for college and career success. Thank you for preparing our students to do their very best on these upcoming assessments.

2018 and Beyond

We will continue to remain focused on implementing APS 2020: Shaping the Future in our classrooms and support sites. I strongly believe in our work to help students create plans, develop skills and earn credentials that will open doors. I could not ask to be part of a better team as we accelerate learning for every student, every day.

Thank you for your hard work and again, welcome back.
