In Aurora Public Schools, we believe all students must have equitable access to learning opportunities, technology and environments that support them in reaching their full potential. That is why we are excited to announce that Hinkley High School earned designation as a Silver School of Opportunity by the National Education Policy Center!
This national honor recognizes Hinkley staff for going above and beyond to create remarkable learning opportunities for all students. It stands as one of only eight schools across the nation to earn this title.
As part of the evaluation, each school underwent a six-phase review process, including a self-assessment, expert reviews and project evaluator site visits. There are many ways in which Hinkley demonstrates its efforts to close the achievement gap, but the school’s restorative justice program stands as the foundation. It upholds NEPC’s criterion that addresses “creating and maintaining a healthy school culture with attention to diversity and to reassessing student discipline policies.”
Hinkley also boasts amazing teacher training opportunities, a high percentage of concurrent enrollment students and increased graduation rates, proving to truly be “a flight above the rest.” Bravo to Hinkley staff for their efforts to execute APS’ mission to help every student shape a successful future.
