Aurora Youth 4 Success Summer Program 7/6-7/23

The 2nd annual Aurora Youth 4 Success summer program is scheduled to take place on July 6 through July 23, 2010 from 1:00-3:00 PM at Gateway High School. Aurora Public School students ages 14-18 are encouraged to participate in an educational program provided to Aurora Public Schools in collaboration with the Aurora Youth 4 Success Program.

Students can select from the following menu of classes: Architecture, Arts, Business/Marketing, Computers, Culinary Arts,  and Drama. Program providers include: Art from Ashes, Junior Achievement, Summer Apprentice Program, Fox Theatre, andKidsTek. In addition, all students will receive the Alive @ 25 or the Financial Education course as a part of their program.

The cost per student is $25.00 and financial scholarships are available upon request. Whether a student wants to refine their skills or enrich their summer, they should not miss this outstanding opportunity!

There are several ways to register:

  • There are in-person registrations Mon., June 28th & Tues., June 29th at Gateway High School in the main lobby from 4:00pm-6:00pm.
  • You can go to the website www.AuroraYouth4Success.org, download the registration form and email it back.  You must send a signed copy and your fee with your student the first day to secure a spot.  Note: Scholarships are still available.
  • You can also come to Gateway HS at 12:00PM on the first day of class, Tuesday, July 6th, but we cannot guarantee that there will be any classes or preferred classes still available.

Instructional Materials for Adoption on Display 7/21-8/17

Aurora Public Schools Board of Education is considering adoption of an online health program for kindergarten through grade 12. The program may be previewed at http://www.healthteacher.com. WELCOME TO APS!

All new APS teachers will begin on July 26th at Gateway High School in the Commons for a continental breakfast followed by a “Welcome” from Superintendent John Barry and Aurora Public Schools Board of Education in the auditorium. After the welcome session, all new teachers will report to their home school sites.

NEW TEACHER CONFERENCE

New teacher conference will be held on:
Tuesday, July 27th and Wednesday, July 28th
7:30 am to 3:30 pm
Elementary – Quest Academy
Secondary – William Smith HS

The schedule, agenda and list of specific locations for the conference will be posted to the APS Division of Instruction website:

Technology Orientation for New Teachers

In addition to the workshops at the New Teacher Conference, all new teachers must attend one technology orientation course (time & dates listed below). Topics include:

  • APS resources
  • voice mail
  • GroupWise email
  • network login
  • and Infinite Campus login for attendance and student information.

Registration is accepted online only at:

Session dates: July 29 & Aug. 3
Session times:

  • 7:30 – 9:15 am
  • 9:45 – 11:30 am
  • 1:00 – 2:45 pm
  • 3:00 – 4:45 pm

Each session will be held at:

Educational Services Center 1 (ESC 1)
15701 E. 1st Avenue
Suite 110
Labs 1 and 2 in the Instructional Technology Training Center which can accommodate 40 total participants (20 per class)
– NO WALK-INS.

New teachers should check with their principals to determine which session would least conflict with planned activities at their sites.
