Aurora Public Schools Board of Education Notes Newsletter

Welcome to the June 2017 edition of the
APS Board of Education Newsletter!

Board members had the pleasure of wishing more than 3,200 APS and Pickens Technical College graduates luck at 12 different graduation ceremonies. It was wonderful to see the proud faces of students, teachers, administrators, family members and friends.

This was the largest class of graduates in APS history! Board members were excited to celebrate each student who was recognized for their hard work and accomplishments.

Congratulations APS Class of 2017!

- Amber Drevon, APS Board President

Key Board News

In June, the Board will finalize the 2017-18 district budget, decide on the Denver School of Science and Technology (DSST) charter application and review one last APS 2020 update.

As we transition from implementing the strategic plan to making it come to life, the Board will focus on the planís core beliefs. Board members will hold a retreat in August to plan for the 2017-18 school year.

We hope you have a safe and wonderful summer!

A Discussion with the Resident Leadership Council
Thanks to Gabriela Jacobo from the Resident Leadership Council for the invitation to speak with the council during their May meeting. We had a great discussion about APS along with the challenges that face us as a community. I greatly appreciate the contributions of the RLC to our community and their proactive approach to creating positive change for our students. A big thanks is extended to Mark Davis and staff from Maintenance and Operations for doing the preparation work.
