Aurora Public Schools Bond Construction Underway

The scenery is changing at many APS schools as bond construction projects get underway.

A brand new state-of-the-art media center for students and staff at Rangeview High School is scheduled to open when school begins in August 2003. Media Specialist Elizabeth Fisher said, "We anticipate that the impact on student achievement will be significant as more classes utilize the center. Our new Dell computer lab will provide newer technologies for better access to more online resources. The attractive and friendly atmosphere will provide students an appealing place to study and work together on projects." In addition to the media center, construction is underway on eight new classrooms at Rangeview.

Construction at Gateway High School includes a new 500-seat auditorium as well as mechanical and building repairs that will replace a portion of the heating and water supply pipes, pool and gymnasium bleachers, and crawlspace ventilation system.

Building renewal projects will soon begin at Aurora Hills Middle School, Clyde Miller, Crawford and Sable elementary schools. Altura, Elkhart, Laredo, Lyn Knoll and Virginia Court elementary schools, and North and South middle schools will undergo concrete pavement repairs. Arkansas, Dalton, Iowa, Tollgate and Vassar elementary schools will receive roof replacements.

Also scheduled this summer are bleacher and pool locker replacement at Aurora Central High School and the installation of artificial turf at the District Stadium located at Hinkley High School.

Over the next five years every school in the District will receive improvements. All of this construction is possible due to the $225 million bond that was approved by Aurora voters in November 2002.

The Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee monitors Aurora Public Schools bond projects. Superintendent Robert D. Adams and the Aurora Public Schools Board of Education established this committee to provide an independent review of the major bond projects and to provide District accountability to Aurora citizens.
