APS Board of Education Honors School Improvement

To honor the hard work and dedication of staff, students and parents, the APS Board of Education has announced its first annual Improvement Awards.  Sable Elementary and West Middle School received the 2005 award for significant improvement shown over the past three years.

The board values the hard work at all district schools and based its selection on improvements in several areas, including
•        quantitative data, such as CSAP scores;
•        qualitative data, such as staff willingness to embrace best practices for individual students and parental/community involvement.

"Congratulations to staff, students and parents at Sable Elementary School and West Middle School.  Your hard work is exemplary, and your efforts show how much you really care, "said Steve Warstler, APS Board of Education treasurer.

When Sable teacher Jay Vean told his fifth-grade students about the award their school received, one student commented, “I feel really happy that they gave our school an award because it’s the best school, and the plaque they gave us is really cool ‘cause it’s so shiny.”
