Destination ImagiNation Participants Continue Legacy

Eleven Aurora Public School teams will join more than forty others in the 2006 North Metro Destination ImagiNation tournament on Saturday, March 25 at Rangeview High School. Destination ImagiNation is one of the world's largest creative, team-based, problem-solving programs for youth of all ages. Tournament challenges range from theatre arts and improvisational acting to architectural design and structural engineering.

Among those competing this year is an Aurora Public Schools team that advanced to the global tournament in 2004 in Knoxville, TN.  Jillian Birely, Greg Collette, Dominique Schoech, and Hayley Walters started as first-graders at Dalton Elementary School, competed at the global tournament while attending Columbia Middle School and are now a part of the Rangeview High School team.  "We love Destination ImagiNation. We have learned building skills and mechanics that we will use the rest of our lives," they said.

In addition to representing their own school, Hayley Walters and Jillian Birely manage the Dalton team. "We learned so much from our experience that we wanted to help other students," they said.

Another APS team from Park Lane Elementary will perform their challenge in Spanish.  They will participate in a play they wrote and staged.  Although this in a non-competitive event, students can earn medals and ribbons.

Rangeview High School is located at 17599 Iliff Ave.
