Aurora Public Schools Superintendent John L. Barry is asking staff, parents and community members to pick up the PACE to raise student achievement in the district. On Oct. 17, APS is releasing a draft of VISTA 2010, the district's new strategic plan for public review. The plan is based on feedback received during the superintendent's 90-day listening tour.
On Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 10 a.m., Superintendent Barry will hold a press conference to share highlights of the VISTA 2010 draft. The event will be held at Clyde Miller Elementary School, located at 1701 Espana Street, 80011.
"We are truly excited to roll out this dynamic vision for transforming the future of APS," said Barry. "VISTA 2010 provides a new vision, mission and core values that we must promote within the district to ensure higher achievement for every student."
The theme of the plan is "picking up the PACE for continuous improvement." VISTA 2010 focuses on four key areas: People, Achievement, Community and Environment. Goals, objectives and actions are outlined for each area. Every APS division and school will develop an action plan to ensure accountability throughout the district.
APS is collecting additional feedback from students, parents, staff and community members to ensure that the draft plan meets Aurora's needs. The strategic plan will be available online on Oct. 17 at www.aps.k12.oc.us/supt/plan. An embargoed copy of the plan will be available to the media at 8 a.m. on Oct. 16. APS will collect feedback through Nov. 3 and finalize the plan by Nov. 21.
