APS Students Honor APD Police Officer Mike Thomas

Fallen Aurora Police Officer, Mike Thomas, was an important figure to the East Middle School community.  As an officer assigned to the area, he often filled in for the East School Resource Officer.  Thomas assisted students and staff at East and developed lasting relationships.  The tragic loss of Officer Thomas created a void at East and in our community. 

With a sincere desire to make a difference on behalf of Officer Thomas and his family, the East staff and students hosted a fall festival on Oct. 20.  The theme “Commitment to Excellence,” reflected Officer Thomas’ commitment to our community.

The generous outpouring of gratitude raised $3,000. A check will be presented to the family of Officer Thomas on Nov. 8 at 1:30 p.m. Aurora Police Department Chief Dan Oates, Division Chief Ken Murphy and Captain Jerry Hinkle will represent the police department at this event.

The students of East Middle School are hopeful that their donations would be matched by area businesses.  Donations can still be made to:
