Superintendent John L. Barry and Board President Matt Cook recognized 10 individuals who make a difference in the lives of APS students. Barry honored eight staff members, a parent and a community/business member with Superintendent Annual Awards on May 1 at the Gateway High School Commons. The winners were chosen from the 2007-08 Superintendent Quarterly Award winners.
Colorado Lt. Governor Barbara O'Brien delivered the opening remarks for the ceremony, congratulating the Quarterly Award honorees for their dedication to students. She also praised APS for its bold, new direction to improve academic achievement for all students.
Each Annual Award winner received a recognition plaque and a gift basket of donated items from the Aurora Public Schools Education Foundation.
Carrabba's Italian Grill, with the help of players from the Gateway football team, served dinner to more than 100 people in attendance. The Rangeview choir group entertained the audience with a variety of songs, including a a dance medley of swing tunes.
