Story by Leslie Fajardo
APS Communication Team Intern
Students at Aurora Hills Middle School recently had the opportunity to hear a motivating presentation from Canadian inspirational speaker Alvin Law.
Law is not your ordinary inspirational speaker; he was born without arms. This was the result of his mother's use of the morning sickness drug Thalidomide while she was pregnant with him. However, Law doesn’t let his disability get in the way of doing what he really wants.
Apart from talking about his struggles in life and how he overcame them, Law also demonstrated how he carries out everyday tasks—using his feet. He played the piano, drums, combed his hair and even showed students how he eats. Students were thrilled and it was evident that Law impacted many students’ views on how to overcome life’s challenges.
During his speech, Law incorporated his five laws of life, which can be seen in his book, “Alvin’s Laws of Life…5 Steps to Successfully Overcome Anything.”
APS would like to thank ConocoPhillips for providing this great opportunity for students. Through its investment, ConocoPhillips continues to make a positive impact on communities like Aurora.
