A number of Colorado legislators, including several from the Aurora delegation, visited Tollgate Elementary School of Expeditionary Learning recently to learn more about the school's teacher residency model. APS Board of Education members were also on hand to participate in the dialogue.
Partnering with the Stanley British Primary Teacher Preparation Program, Tollgate has used the teacher residency model for the last 15 years. GreatEducation Colorado, a nonprofit grassroots organization that focuses on improving education in Colorado, organized the visit. Legislators and teachers engaged in conversations about the realities schools and teachers face and the overall impact of laws and funding.
While at Tollgate, guests observed the positive impact the teacher residency and Expeditionary Learning models have had on its students.
