Aurora Central High School recently hosted nearly 30 librarians and teachers from countries around the world as part of the International Visitor Leadership Program. The visit, organized by the Center for Education in Law and Democracy (CELD) and the Colorado Civic Canopy, offered guests the opportunity to gain knowledge about U.S. society, including the social successes and challenges facing diverse communities across the country.
The visit also included a student-led presentation about Project Citizen, which provides opportunities for Colorado students to participate in the public policy process through identifying, analyzing and proposing a policy concerning a local or state issue of interest to them. Through Project Citizen, ACHS students have learned how citizens engage in public policy and that overall engagement encompasses more than just voting.
Thank you to Aurora Central's Project Citizen team for such an engaging and thought provoking presentation!
