From Desk Tops to Mountain Tops: Laredo Students Take On Winter Sports

1A group of Laredo Elementary School fifth-grade students recently spent a school day at Granby Ranch, enjoying Colorado’s majestic Rocky Mountain landscape while learning how to ski and snowboard.

Laredo fifth grade teacher Amy Scheuers and the APS Grants Department helped to make the trip possible by requesting and receiving a $700 grant from Target to cover transportation costs. To top it off, Colorado Ski Country USA grants every Colorado fifth grade student a free ski pass.

“I wanted to give the students an opportunity to experience the mountains instead of just seeing them from our school,” said Scheuers. “They are Colorado residences and I believe they should have the opportunity to see the beauty of our state.”

“I think it was really fun and I learned a lot,” said Laredo student Noelia Correa. “I fell, but I still liked it!”

APS thanks Target and Colorado Ski Country USA for supporting Laredo staff’s efforts in providing such a rich experience for students. This aligns with the district’s core belief that community partnerships provide vital resources and opportunities for students and families.
