As evidenced by “The Alphabet Song,” when it comes to helping children retain information, a great technique with a long-lasting impact is a good tune. Wheeling IB World School applied this method to instill a deeper sense of integrity in students by creating a music video with them.
Students and staff lip-synced lyrics to a song titled “Divisionary (Do the Right Thing)” by Ages and Ages. The catchy chorus, “Do the right thing. Do it all the time,” aligns with Wheeling’s No Place for Hate campaign, which encourages students to value diversity.
The Anti-Defamation League classified Wheeling as a No Place for Hate school in the 2013-14 school year. The campaign empowers schools to promote respect for others despite peoples’ differences and to foster harmony between diverse groups. To further cultivate the school’s culture of respect, a discussion regarding what it means to do the right thing took place between staff and students. Both parties shared their perspectives and birthed the idea to create a video.
Check out the heart-warming production below! It’s sure to brighten your day and hopefully motivate you to do the right thing, too.
