If Aurora Public Schools had a hall of fame category for employees, Glenn Blanco would fit the bill.
The longtime – and retired – APS Stadium announcer began his career in the school district in 1980 as the official timekeeper at all high school football games. By 1986, he was working as the stadium's public address announcer for all middle and high school track and field meets. Thanks to his undeniable pipes, Glenn soon transitioned to the public address announcer for all high school football games.
Throughout his 35-year tenure, Glenn called nearly 500 football games and more than 200 track and field events while working for four district athletic directors.
“I am very proud to have seen the hundreds of APS athletes compete over the years here at this venerable stadium," Blanco said. "It makes me very proud of our school district, our student athletes and our community here in Aurora.”
To commemorate his retirement, APS will honor Blanco with a special ceremony during halftime of the Gateway vs. Rangeview football game this Friday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m.
APS thanks Glenn for his dedication and commitment to Aurora's youth. His voice will surely be missed!
