Life after high school is an exciting time for many young adults as they explore their college and career paths. That’s why Aurora Public Schools was thrilled to hear from APS alumnus Jesus Calderon about his experiences!
Calderon, an Aurora Central High School Class of 2015 graduate and 2015 Aurora LIGHTS student, recently shared how the skills and credentials he obtained in APS are opening doors of opportunity for him.
Thanks to the Aurora Gives scholarship he secured in high school, Calderon is earning an associate degree from the Community College of Aurora at no cost. “So far, my experience at CCA has been beyond satisfying!” he said.
Calderon recently represented CCA at an American Association for Hispanics in Higher Education conference in California where he networked with higher education experts from across the nation. He also attended the National Model United Nations conference in New York to provide solutions for real-world problems. Through the experiences, he gained new international friends and a possible scholarship opportunity.
“I can say without a doubt that the Aurora LIGHTS classes I took at Aurora Central, along with other AP classes, had a positive impact on my college readiness,” said Calderon.
APS wishes Calderon continued success as he pursues a major in Communication. He is a walking testimony of the APS 2020: Shaping the Future strategic plan goals that focus on ensuring every student has skills to implement his or her plan and credentials that open doors.
