Last year, students in the Vista PEAK Preparatory Genesis Game Club decided to give back to their community in a huge way. Club president Angel Avila and sponsor Jay Vicens discussed the idea of having a live stream gaming session to raise money for kids at Children's Hospital Colorado. Soon after, the club partnered with Extra-Life.org and brought the idea to fruition.
Extra Life is an organization committed to uniting thousands of game players around the world for a 24-hour gaming marathon to support Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Since its inception in 2008, Extra Life has raised more than $30 million for local CMN Hospitals!
Thanks to the partnership between Extra Life, Vista PEAK's Genesis Game Club and several donors, more than $600 was raised for Children's Hospital Colorado. This is a wonderful example of the APS 2020 core belief that community partnerships provide vital resources and opportunities for students and families.
Children's Miracle Network Hospitals sent the club a letter to thank students for helping those in need.
This year, the club plans on completing another live streaming event to raise more money for Children's Hospital Colorado.
