Laredo Elementary School students and staff wrapped up the 2016-17 school year with a grand opening celebration for their brand new playground equipment. This year, they will truly get to enjoy the shiny set.
Thanks to a generous grant of almost $50,000 from Lowe’s Home Improvement, the school was able to replace an old galvanized steel climbing structure with a large, colorful piece that offers options for balancing, climbing, upper body strength and more! It can also accommodate multiple children at one time.
Laredo students and staff celebrated the playground’s completion with Lowe’s store #0102, located at 1701 South Havana Street in Aurora. Students presented Lowe’s employees with heartwarming cards and letters of appreciation.
Aurora Public Schools Chief Operating Officer Anthony Sturges joined the ceremony, accompanied by APS Board of Education members Barbara Yamrick and Eric Nelson. The speakers, Laredo principal Andrew Hoelscher, PE teacher Leann Hepburn and student Samara Yorks, made the event a memorable one.
As highlighted in our APS 2020: Shaping the Future strategic plan, community partnerships provide vital resources and opportunities for students and families. We are grateful to have such a wonderful partnership with Lowe’s and thank them for their continued support of our community.
