Last Tuesday, the Board held its monthly business meeting. As a result of the election and Thanksgiving holiday, the Board schedule in November does not align with its usual every other Tuesday format.
Tuesday’s meeting was the last regular meeting for the Board as currently constituted. As such the Board wanted to take time to go over and complete some of the work initiated during the last several years. The meeting covered three major topics:
First, the Board heard the comprehensive report of our external auditing firm, BKD. BKD does an annual review of our financial practices and policies. APS received an “unmodified” or “clean” report of our financials.
Second, the Board held its Second Reading of the draft charter contract for a proposed middle and high school operated by the Denver School of Science and Technology. The Board approved changes to the draft that it directed from its prior meeting and approved the contract.
Finally, the Board heard an update on the implementation of APS2020. The Board reviewed the status of the implementation metrics (Plans, Skills and Credentials) and the progress on our Key Performance Indicators: Graduation, college readiness, PARCC, ACCESS, remediation and matriculation.
The next Board meeting on Nov. 28 will be a Special Meeting to welcome new members and say goodbye to departing members. I will not be sending an update after that meeting but assume there will be cake. Happy Thanksgiving.
As always, you can access the Board minutes and presentations on our website.
