Melting icebergs, littered grounds, pollution and other environmental issues have a group of Aurora West College Preparatory Academy students concerned about their futures and the well-being of future generations.
As part of a class project, the group learned about the impact heat waves, unclean energy sources, improper use of energy and more can have on the planet. One particular assignment directed students to capture photos of trash in places it did not belong. One student wrote on their photo collage, “When you put the whole picture together, recycling is the right thing to do.”
In the process of becoming educated environmentalists, the students are growing vocal about the need for change. In various communications, the group shared a call to action urging elected officials to further embrace and promote eco-friendly practices to help reduce our environmental footprint.
In Aurora Public Schools, we believe students must take an active and ongoing responsibility for their learning. We applaud these students for taking their learning beyond the classroom and becoming the change they wish to see in the world.
