Columbia Music Students Seek Donations to Help Local Veterans

Students in Columbia Middle School's Tri-M Music Honors Society are collecting items for local veterans.

Multiple students in Columbia Middle School's Tri-M Music Honor Society have family members in the military. When deciding which organization to support with a service project this year, they knew they wanted to do something to help local veterans. Columbia's music teacher, Nina Scheideman, suggested they help the Colorado State Veterans Home at Fitzsimons.

Scheideman's son's grandfather, Hank Welsh, lived at the veterans home for more than three years. She said the home did a great job of caring for Welsh before he passed away and she wanted her students to find out how they could help. After talking with the veterans home, the Tri-M students decided to launch an item drive to collect supplies. Tri-M Club President Avaris Gaskins said, "We're helping them because they helped us."

Tri-M students are encouraging fellow Columbia students and the APS community to help donate. Donations will be collected at the school through May 9.
