Vista PEAK Preparatory’s spring 2018 musical “Into the Woods” was nominated for a whopping six Bobby G Awards presented by the Denver Center for the Performing Arts! The awards recognize outstanding achievement in Colorado high school musical theater.
In May, the VPP cast arrived in style at the Buell Theatre to celebrate DCPA’s sixth annual awards ceremony. From walking a red carpet to posing for paparazzi, students enjoyed a night of honor and prestige.
Their production was up for best lighting design, best musical direction, best orchestra, best overall production, best female performance and best male performance awards.
Congratulations to VPP 2018 graduate Julianna Luce for earning the Bobby G Award for Outstanding Lighting and to her classmate Elisha Horne who was named Outstanding Actor for his performance as the baker!
Horne’s win earned him a spot to compete against 79 students from across the U.S. at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York. He spent nine days in the Big Apple rehearsing and training under Broadway professionals and New York University professors. After leaving his heart on stage at the Minskoff Theatre, home to Broadway’s Lion King, Horne was thrilled to earn a special judges recognition and a $2,000 scholarship!
Earlier in the year, Luce and her classmate Trinell Samuel’s original one act “Technical Difficulties” won an award at DCPA’s one act playwriting festival.
VPP’s performing arts department upholds our belief that every student has unique abilities that we must recognize and engage. The program’s success is inspiring and a true testament to the Bison’s dedication to excellence in and outside of the classroom.
