Thanks to a bold commitment to energy conservation, APS has realized nearly $1.2 million in electric and natural gas cost avoidance over the past three years. The district projects an additional $400,000 in savings during the 2018-19 school year, which is expected to increase to $600,000 annually by 2020-21.
The bond program approved by Aurora voters in 2016 is helping to boost the district’s energy savings. The bond has already funded a variety of energy conservation and HVAC technology improvements, such as:
- Replacing 95 percent of all exterior lights throughout the district with LED lighting
- Upgrading digital controls in one-fourth of district schools and locations
- Monitoring HVAC equipment serving one million square feet of district property by state of the art performance analytics, improving awareness and attention to performance
In addition to energy conservation, the $300 million bond is funding improvements at every school and benefiting every student in the district. To learn more about bond projects, visit bond.aurorak12.org.
