APS Avenues Students Help Senior Citizen with Fall Yard Cleanup

The annual changing of the leaves brings a lot of beauty to Aurora, but it also creates quite a mess when those leaves fall to the ground. For one local senior citizen, the task of raking up leaves is something she just can't do alone. Fortunately, students from APS Avenues, the district's alternative education program, stepped in to help.

When students first join APS Avenues, they complete a six-week program called "Discovery" which includes an opportunity to do service in the community. The students partnered with Volunteers of America Colorado as part of the organization's Yard Angels program. The program matches volunteers with local seniors who need assistance with cleaning and maintaining their yards.

Students worked side-by-side with APS Avenues staff to stuff multiple bags with leaves. They also cleaned out the woman's garden and prepared it for winter. Great job APS Avenues!
