In honor of Veterans Day on Nov. 11, Aurora Public Schools salutes all veterans and active-duty military members for their unique sacrifice, bravery and commitment to our country. We also honor the sacrifices of their families who often move frequently to support the military members.
APS is privileged to have more than 400 students in military-connected families. Ashley Sharp, an eighth-grader at Mosley P-8, is proud of her father, Tech Sgt. Andrew Sharp, who is currently serving in the U.S. Air Force as a computer technician. Tech Sgt. Sharp has been in the military for almost 20 years and is expected to retire next summer.
“I’ve lived in Louisiana, Florida, Maryland and now Colorado,” said Ashley. “As a result, I’ve learned how to overcome challenges and be resilient.”
Josiah Stuckey, another eighth-grade student at Mosley, embraces his life as a military child. His father, Staff Sgt. Daniel Stuckey, began his military career in the U.S. Marines and is currently serving in the U.S. Army.
“It can be challenging moving from place to place and having to start over with a new group of friends,” said Stuckey. “On the flip side, it can also be one big adventure for the whole family and I get to meet new people and experience different cultures.”
For all of our APS veterans, active-duty military members and their families, we offer a heartfelt Thank you.
