New APS Board Members Take Oath of Office

New members of the APS Board of Education took the oath of office during a swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Three new Board members – Stephanie Mason, Nichelle Ortiz and Vicki Reinhard – were elected in November to their first terms in office and join Dr. Kyla Armstrong-Romero, Kevin Cox, Debra Gerkin and Marques Ivey on the Board.

The Board also elected new officers:

  • President Dr. Kyla Armstrong-Romero
  • Vice President Kevin Cox
  • Treasurer Marques Ivey, J.D.
  • Secretary Debra E. Gerkin

The APS Board of Education is a group of citizens elected by voters to provide leadership and establish policies for the school district. The seven-member board is elected at-large. Members serve four-year terms and receive no monetary compensation.

Board meetings are generally held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.
