When it comes to helping every APS student shape a successful future, there is a special group of people in the district who not only support students academically, but also tend to their social and emotional needs—our school counselors.
This week, Feb. 3-7, APS joins districts across the U.S. to celebrate National School Counseling Week! This observance, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, honors the unique and vital role school counselors play in students’ lives. The 2020 theme is "School Counselors: Helping Build Better Humans."
Professional school counselors hold a master’s degree with specialized training based on national standards and ethics governed by the ASCA. They work behind the scenes encouraging and supporting students to create, monitor and reach academic, personal, social and career goals.
APS CARES about the overall health and safety of our students and we thank our school counselors for working so diligently to ensure our students' mental and emotional well being. Please join us in thanking these unsung heroes for helping remove barriers our students may face in meeting their academic and future goals.
Thanks to Aurora voters who approved our 2018 mill levy override, we welcomed more than 100 additional professionals to our Mental Health and Counseling team to join in this great work. Together, we will help every APS student shape a successful future.
