APS to Host Virtual Prom on April 25!

The last few weeks have disrupted our lives in so many ways. We know how important it is to listen to our public health officials and stay at home as much as possible. Staying at home is saving lives and what is best for our healthcare system. Still, this is not easy and we are certainly mourning the loss of in-person learning and other events that we all look forward to this time of year.

In the spirit of creating lemonade out of lemons, we are still committed to creating meaningful opportunities for our community by thinking outside of the box. One exciting way we are doing this is by partnering with the City of Aurora and AuroraTV to host a virtual prom for all APS high school students. One of the core beliefs in our strategic plan, APS 2020, is that community partnerships provide vital resources and opportunities for students and families. We are thankful for such wonderful community partners including AuroraTV and the City of Aurora.

The APS virtual prom will be held on Saturday, April 25 from 7-9 p.m. Students and their families can tune in to AuroraTV (Channel 8 or 880 on Comcast) or access the livestream of the event at www.auroratv.org. (Click on the green Watch Live icon.)

The live event will feature a local DJ playing top hits with real-time social media interaction. We are encouraging our students to dress up as they would have for prom, dance with their families at home and connect with us through Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. We hope that all of you will celebrate this with our students. We will be encouraging everyone to post pictures and use the hashtag #APSProm2020.
