Congratulations to Pickens Technical College instructor Ed Martin for being named the 2020 B’laster Instructor of the Year by Tomorrow’s Tech.
Tomorrow’s Tech, in partnership with B’laster Corporation, recognizes auto instructors who take an unconventional approach to education and is committed to educating the best future technicians.
Martin, who is currently an automotive technology instructor at Pickens, has been teaching students for 10 years. Before that, he spent nearly 30 years turning wrenches for a living as an auto mechanic.
“From the first day my students walk into the classroom, I tell them that part of my job is to help them identify what they are passionate about,” said Martin. “Even if it isn’t auto repair, if you identify your passion, you’ll never work a day in your life.”
Despite battling cancer for the last 10 years, Martin goes to work every day meeting the intellectual, technical and emotional needs of his students. He empowers his students to never give up and to always keep a positive attitude towards life.
“Many of my students have told me that they have overcome personal struggles because of my example,” said Martin. “Hearing comments like that is humbling, and it shows the importance of how much our students are watching us and the example we live out in front of them.”
APS is proud of Martin for his unwavering commitment to our students and for being a shining example to us all.
